We then travel on to Great Dixter, which dates from the mid 15th century, famous for its garden which is regarded as the epitome of English plantsmanship. Tonight you may care to join me for an optional outing to a local pub for dinner.

Beaulieu also includes the National Motor Museum where you will see a collection of over 250 vehicles from every motoring era. |
Salisbury – Cornwall |
An early start this morning to visit the world heritage site of Stonehenge, a powerful reminder of the once-great peoples of the late Stone and Bronze Ages. Erected between 3,000 BC and 1,600 BC, a number of the stones were carried hundreds of miles over land and sea, while antlers and bones were used to dig the pits that hold the stones. Our tour then takes us to Cornwall through the beautiful county of Somerset via Dartmoor, where we will stop for lunch at Widecombe in the Moor, a small village located within the heart of the Dartmoor National Park. On reaching Cornwall we will check into the MANNINGS HOTEL in Truro, or similar, for a two night stay. Dinner tonight is included.
Saturday, 14th August |

We will visit The Roman Baths, the heart of the World Heritage Site, where Romans built a magnificent temple and bathing complex that still flows with natural hot water. We then continue on to Mickleton in the heart of the Cotswolds. Our hotel for the next three nights is the THREE WAYS HOTEL, Home of the Pudding Club. Dinner tonight is included.

Mickelton – Lake District |
Today we drive to the Lake District via Stoke on Trent, which is made up of six separate towns: Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley (the city centre), Stoke, Fenton and Longton- collectively known as ‘The Potteries' amongst locals. This is also the home of Wedgewood and many more. If time is available we will have a visit to a pottery. The next two nights will be spent in the Lake District at the LINDETH HOWE HOTEL, a home formerly owned by Beatrix Potter.
Thursday 19th August |
Lake District |
This morning our sightseeing will include a cruise on Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England and a visit to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her stories. Beatrix Potter's house Hill Top remains as she left it, and was the inspiration for many of her tales. Each room contains something that appeared in her books. Beatrix valued the house and its contents highly and when she died she left Hill Top to the National Trust to open it to the public, on the condition that the house was kept with all her belongings in place. You will have a free afternoon to relax or explore.
Friday, 20th August |
Lake District – Edinburgh |
A highlight on our way to Edinburgh is Hadrian’s Wall, a stone or turf and timber fortification built by the Roman Empire across the width of what is now northern England. The wall was the most heavily fortified border in the Empire. We will also stop at Stirling, originally a Stone Age settlement, and strategically significant since at least the Roman occupation of Britain, due to its naturally defensible crag and tail hill and its commanding position at the foot of the Ochil Hills. On reaching Edinburgh we have a two night stay at the Roxburghe Hotel, or similar. Dinner tonight is included.
Saturday, 21st August |
Edinburgh |
The historic City of Edinburgh has preserved over the years its own medieval atmosphere. Every corner of the city has its own story or legend. Our city sightseeing will include Princes Street, the Royal Mile, views of the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood House and a guided visit of Edinburgh Castle. Our tour will end with a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannnia and then free time to enjoy this wonderful city.

Sunday, 22nd August |
Edinburgh – Dunkeld |
Our tour today departs for Culross, a National Trust village of beautifully preserved 16th and 17th century houses. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Culross was a thriving community, with a flourishing trade with the Low Countries, as evidenced by the architectural style of the village. We continue on to St Andrews with time to enjoy the medieval town and the famous golf course. St Andrews is the home of golf, the sport having been played here for some 600 years. The Old Course is arguably the most famous golf course in the world. We arrive in Dunkeld to check into the DUNKELD-HILTON HOTEL, or similar, for one night. There is time to relax before dinner, which is included.
Monday, 23rd August |
Dunkeld – Inverness |
Our tour heads to Inverness, a city in the magnificent Highlands with a visit to Edradour Distillery in Pitlochry, the smallest and most picturesque distillery in Scotland. Edradour Whiskey is as hand made today as it was over 150 years ago by just three men who are devoted to the time-honoured methods of whisky making. Our two night stay is at the INVERNESS-WATERSIDE HOTEL, or similar, with dinner included.
Tuesday, 24th August |
Inverness |
Today our sightseeing in this historic area will include the Culloden Battlefield site. The Battle of Culloden (16 April 1746) was the final clash between the French-supported Jacobites and the Hanoverian British Government in the 1745 Jacobite Rising. Culloden defeated the Jacobite cause—to restore the House of Stuart to the throne of the Kingdom of Great Britain—a decisive defeat. It was the last battle ever to be fought on British soil. Our sightseeing also includes Cawdor Castle, dating from the late 14th century and Clava Cairns, a type of Bronze Age circular chamber tomb cairn.
Wednesday, 25th August |
Inverness - Skye |
We depart Inverness via Fort Augustus and drive along the shores of Loch Ness, a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands extending for approximately 37 km (23 miles) southwest of Inverness. Its surface is 15.8 metres (52 ft) above sea level. Loch Ness is best known for the alleged sightings of the legendary Loch Ness Monster, also known as "Nessie". We will have a chance to visit either Urquhart Castle which sits beside Loch Ness or Eilean Donan, a small island in Loch Duich. The island is dominated by a picturesque medieval castle, originally used in the early 13th century as a defence against the Vikings. After our lunch break we head across the bridge to the Isle of Skye, where we will check in to the SKYE-CUILLIN HILLS HOTEL, or similar, for a two night stay. Dinner tonight is included.
Thursday, 26th August |
Skye |
Today we will be travelling around the Isle of Skye. The island is renowned for its spectacular scenery, vibrant culture and heritage, and its abundant wildlife with birds from the tiny Goldcrest to magnificent Golden Eagle, mammals from Pygmy Shrew to Red Deer and fish from Saithe to Salmon. The wide range of geology and topography provides habitats for many wild flowers. As you travel around the Island it's not unusual to hear snatches of Scottish Gaelic, the indigenous language of the area. Gaelic culture and heritage pervade the atmosphere, each part of the Island having its own tales of times past and plans for the future.
Friday, 27th August |
Skye – Glasgow |
We leave the beautiful Isle of Skye and head towards Glasgow via Glencoe, probably Scotland’s most famous and most scenic Highland glen. We also pass Loch Lomond which is 24 miles long and five miles wide and at its deepest point is some 600 feet deep. Loch Lomond must be the world’s most famous Loch and has been much written about, both in song and verse. Dinner tonight is included after we settle in at the GLASGOW-RADISSON SAS HOTEL for one night.
Saturday, 28th August |
Glasgow – Dublin |
This morning we have a tour around the city of Glasgow, one of the most cosmopolitan destinations in Europe. The city has been reborn as a centre of style and vitality set against a backdrop of outstanding Victorian architecture. Glasgow boasts world famous art collections and the best shopping in the UK outside London. A must see is the splendour of Scotland's best known architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose style adorns many unique attractions throughout Scotland's largest and greatest city. Later we transfer to the airport for our flight to Dublin. On our arrival in Dublin we will be transferred to the DUBLIN-RADISSON ROYAL HOTEL for two nights. Dinner tonight is included.
Sunday, 29th August |
Dublin |
Our morning sightseeing tour of Dublin will include views of St Patrick’s Cathedral, built in 1191 and a visit to Trinity College, probably best known as the home to the famed 8th century the Book of Kells. We shall also visit the Dublin Writers Museum, a beautifully restored Georgian Mansion that holds a vast collection of books, poetry, portraits and letters from Ireland’s most famous literary icons of the past 300 years. We end today’s tour with a visit to the world famous Guinness Storehouse. The afternoon is free to enable you to further explore the medieval history of ‘old’ Dublin or get to know the city’s locals who are always willing to join in for ‘craic’ (a good time).
Monday, 30th August |
Dublin – Cork |
Today we head to Tully, Kildare to visit the Irish National Stud, home of Ireland’s finest thoroughbreds, a source of national pride. Situated in the same grounds are the famous Japanese Gardens, created between 1906 and 1910. We then drive on to the Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre and the stunning coastal resort of Youghal before arriving in Cork at the CORK-CLARION HOTEL for one night. Dinner tonight is included.
Tuesday, 31st August |
Cork - Killarney |
Today we visit Blarney, steeped in history and magical charm. For many visitors to Blarney, their first priority is to kiss the famous Blarney Stone high up on the Castle battlements. Tradition holds that those who kiss the Blarney Stone will be endowed with the gift of eloquence - "the gift of the gab", as the locals call it. The tour continues on to Bantry House, the ancestral house of the Earl of Bantry. This magnificent period residence boasts breathtaking views of Bantry Bay as well as an important collection of furniture and tapestries. We drive to Killarney for a two night stay at the KILLARNEY-THE BREHON, or similar. Dinner tonight is included. |
Wednesday, 1st September |

Today is an unforgettable day of spectacular scenery as we drive around the Ring of Kerry. This 170km (almost 120 miles) circular route is one of Ireland’s most popular tourist trails. Taking in Killarney National Park, this famous route offers panoramic views of the surrounding county and many islands off the Kerry coast. We arrive back at the hotel by mid afternoon. |

Later, during lunch on board, the ship continues along the Rhine past quaint villages and dramatic landscapes to 2,000 year-old Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle rivers. Set in one of Germany’s most important wine-producing regions, Koblenz boasts an abundance of cultural monuments, historic buildings, cosy lanes and narrow alleys. After dinner, disembark and stroll through the middle of this charming city to discover the relaxed vibe of its squares and river promenades.

Melk–Dürnstein–Weissenkirchen |
Cruise through the scenic Strudengau region to the pretty Wachau Valley this morning and take a guided tour of Melk’s Benedictine Abbey, one of the world’s most famous monastic sites. Located above the town of Melk on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube, it has the rare distinction of surviving as an active Benedictine monastery continuously since its foundation. When it’s time to depart Melk, perhaps borrow one of the bicycles stored on board and take a leisurely ride on a path along the banks of the Danube from Melk to -Dürnstein. Otherwise, rejoin your ship and continue to -Dürnstein for a walking tour through medieval cobblestone streets that reveal 16th century town houses and wine taverns. Here, above town, lie the ruins of the castle where Richard the Lionheart, the King of England, was imprisoned in 1192. Afterwards, cruise back through the Wachau Valley to the town of Weissenkirchen, where this evening you’ll have the chance to sample delicious Wachau Valley wines.

Budapest |
Still on the Danube, arrive in Budapest, the romantic Hungarian capital. With its intriguing history, incredible architecture and rich cultural heritage, Hungary’s capital deserves its reputation as the Paris of Central Europe. Following breakfast, disembark for a sightseeing tour that includes such places as 500 year-old Matthias Church, St Stephen’s Basilica, the distinctive Fisherman’s Bastion, the marvellous Royal Palace and historic Buda Castle, where you have views of Buda and Pest over both banks of the river. In the afternoon, exclusive to our cruise, visit the Hungarian State Opera House which hosted its inaugural concert in 1884, and is today widely recognised as one of the most splendid examples of Neo-renaissance architecture in the world. Absorb the grandeur of the building from outside, then ascend its majestic steps and venture inside to bask in the intimacy of an exclusive guided tour, a glass of champagne and a delightful private opera recital of two or three ariettas. This evening, as the beautiful lights of the city sparkle all around, enjoy a Farewell Dinner and an onboard performance by Gypsy violinists.
